New books at the library

Everyone else at the library has a blog, so Miss Vicki the Children's Librarian is getting in on the act! I wanted a space where I can write down the new children's books that completely blow my socks off, to replace my handwritten book journal. I will write down the title, author, and try to make an age recommendation.


The 39 Clues: Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan

Ages: 9+

The 39 Clues: Maze of Bones is perhaps my favorite book of this year! It's not going to win any prestigious awards, but it was the most FUN book I've read this year!

Dan and Amy go on the adventure of a lifetime, one that takes them all over the world looking for the mysterious 39 Clues that their grandmother mentions in her will. Several other family members have been asked to find these clues as well, and only one team will succeed. Books just don't get more exciting than this! Maze of Bones is packed with close calls, booby-traps, and spies! AND it contains enough interesting information about historical people, places and events to make you want to head to your nearest library and do some extra reading.

Now, after you've read the book, you can go to http://www.the39clues.com/ and register to play online games to unlock some of the 39 clues. You can also collect cards, many of which have puzzles for you to figure out to help unlock the clues. The games are just challenging enough to be fun, and the puzzles are real head scratchers. Bonus: You can win PRIZES by playing online! All this adds up to the most exciting series I've seen in awhile. Ten books will be published in all. Look for Book 2 by Gordon Korman this winter.
